As far as the "refined" part, well if you know me at all you know this is not a nod to the "fastidious and cultivated" definition of the word, but to "forged from dross by heating to 1200 degrees celsius, then mixed with acids, returned to furnace for the release of posionous gasses, then pounded into brilliance while still warm" denotation. That's the kind of refined I am. Duh.
Here are a few things going on the year I was born. Now you will be able to see even more clearly how, in the light of history, I am who I am (it's not always due to a fault of my own!):
*Top Music: CCR's Proud Mary, Aquarius by the Fifth Dimension, Johnny Cash sings A Boy Named Sue. Also, 400,000 of the great unwashed held a 3 day concert and love-in on the mudflats of Woodstock (peace, baby!)
*Politics: 250,000 protestors march on Washington (shah, of course), former Wisconsin public school teacher Golda Meir becomes Prermier of Israel (shah, of course), Tricky Dicky is prez (shah).
*Economy: Median price of a new house $25,000 (strangely what it is again now on the East Side), gas 34 cents a gallon (sure, back then when I couldn't drive), loaf of bread 25 cents (no research avlbl on the price of 1969 gluten free bread)
*Hit Movies: True Grit (the real one), The Wild Bunch, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Easy Rider and The Love Bug (rebel movies!)
*General News: Neil Armstrong supposedly "walks on the moon" (wink, wink), the now-dead supersonic jet Concorde makes it's maiden voyage (great ideas sometimes don't live as long as people, right?), Jack Kerouac dies (two much fast food while "On the Road"), Stefi Graf is born (she's still perky!), TV hits are The Brady Bunch and Hee-Haw (talk about refined!)
The curse continues to be true. May you live in interesting times, my friend. Interesting times.
